OTR Melbourne was a huge success! Although it was quite cold in Melbourne over the weekend (it was only 7 degrees outside on the way to the airport on Sunday evening!), the Dojang in Croydon is well heated and the cold wasn't at all noticeable once Master Geoff's seminars got underway. Amongst other things, Saturday was full of TLC - torque, leverage and control (what were you thinking?). We practiced how to make techniques we already know (like s-locks and v-locks) more effective ie: more painful ;) Saturday night we all went to a place called Balsamic at Eastlands to eat dinner. Most of the food was good although the mussels were off and David ended up quite sick! You should avoid seafood when so far from the ocean. Sunday we worked through our throws, green belt and brown belt - with the focus on how to make them better. Remember, break, make and take! Master Geoff also showed us some other throws that used to be on the syllabus - of note we practiced fireman's throw and the very nasty shoulder lever throw! All in all, OTR Melbourne was a great deal of fun and I can't wait for OTR Sydney which will be held on the weekend of 8 - 9 September 2007! Master Geoff has thrown up the challenge of getting a record breaking number of students to the OTR in September - I think the number to beat is 76 on the mats at any one time, so hopefully we will get a huge number from Parramatta going along to that one! |
