The word "do" in Hapkido means way and implies more than just a method.  As in most martial arts it refers to a path, as in a path or direction you take in life.

The principles of Hapkido are:

Courtesy - demonstrating respect and consideration for others
Humility - not thinking of yourself more highly than you should
Integrity - keeping your promises and being trustworthy in other people's eyes
Perseverance - always trying to do your best
Self-control - maintaining your temper and staying calm in stressful or unpleasant situations
Indomitable spirit - never, never, never giving up
